I'm failing to see whats so wrong with "camping". That's what snipers do... to get in a good spot that will see heavy traffic without being seen is a skill, and a skill that takes a lot of work and practice.
Maybe some people don't like UT type games where you just run around shooting? I know I sure don't... that's why I tried CoD4.
Sniping is the one and only thing I enjoy doing in FPS, it's the only reason I play. Maybe thats a side effect of not liking computer games, I dunno.

The reason camping is so hated, and rightfully so, is because if everyone goes into the map with the mindset of being a camper then a bunch of candy asses setup in different sides of the map and no one ever sees anybody. It may take a little bit of skill to find a good camping spot but it takes OCEANS AND OCEANS more skill to move about the map taking down your enemy methodically and effectively.
What a lot of folks miss is thinking that this game is like real life sniping. In real life the enemy has to take a city or punch through your lines. You know where they're probably coming from and where they have to go and your job is to stop them and not get caught. These games are played on a map the size of most mall parking lots and there's no start and finish point. So when some camper stays in one spot and waits for someone to pass in front of them they are both missing the point of the game and proving they have absolutely no skill save the ability to stare at a spot on a wall.
Now you are right some folks run around UT style but the good players move about and coordinate with their team and take down the enemy through better tactics. Most campers could care less about their team or the objectives they are trying to accomplish. A sniper can certainly be apart of an effective team but if they're laying in the same spot for most of the game then probably not.

Well I guess I have no skill then, because running around with a gun shooting anything that moves isn't something I'm able to do. By the time I aim, I'm dead. But, I also don't enjoy doing that, either, So I suppose the skill level of it is a moot point anyway. Also, if it comes down to finding a nice high traffic area and sniping away (usually in domination I'll set up near one of our flags), or not playing... well... the answer is obvious.
He's "camping", but if you ask me he's pretty damn effective at it. I would LOVE to get that good at it!
Edit:
Oh, also, I should mention that the people who well up somewhere and just pick people off as they run past IS pretty lame, and I think that's quite a bit different from setting up with a good view of a high traffic area.

If you're covering an objective required to win a match it's hardly camping. I'm talking about the jokers that set up in a room on a table or in a corner watch the door and wait for someone who is actually be proactive to come in. I hope those folks get AIDS and their mothers get punched right in the mouth for raising such a useless child. Go get one of those pictures that have a boat hidden in the squiggly lines and stare at that for an hour if that's all your going to do.
Like I said Snipers can be very effective doing over watch for their squad and eliminating enemy from a distance while their bro's move in for a spawn rape.
When I come across a loser camping in a nook I make it my personal mission to kill them. Then I teabag them and then I tell them to get some balls or find another server.
As far as the guy in the video, he's not camping he's covering three distinct area in three different directions. It's more of a travesty that someone on the other team didn't pick up on his position, considering he stayed in a pretty open and localised area. Had he laid in one spot and watched one path then he'd have been camping.
I also wasn't trying to say that running around shooting everything that moves is the pinnacle of playing. Moving about covering angles and coordinating with your team is the pinnacle of good play. I always lose out on those face to face "oh shit" encounters as well which is why I try to be methodical in my movement. I think if folks go in as a sniper thinking they are going to do what snipers do they're not getting the point. A real sniper will sit for days in one place to get one kill where as a COD4 game lasts 10 minutes and one kill isn't going to cut the mustard when the score is tallied. The real life sniper mystique is powerful but you can't earn it or even get a taste of it in a video game.

Well it depends sometimes too, I saw if you're consistently shooting and seeing people TO shoot, its fine. But yeah just sitting and waiting is lame for sure.
Theres one map thats mostly in a city street (i dont know the maps all that well) where there is CONSTANT action and good coverage for a sniper.
On the other hand, where you say "A real sniper will sit for days in one place to get one kill where as a COD4 game lasts 10 minutes and one kill isn't going to cut the mustard when the score is tallied." I only partly agree. I would be perfectly willing to go a whole round getting into position just to make one nice kill. It's satisfying. I used to play Delta Force 2, and in an hour long match I'd spend a good 45 minutes of it getting into position WAY behind the enemy base. It was so satisfying getting even 3 or 4 kills before the match ends.
As far as running around shooting, that's why my friend told me to try CoD4, because its a little slower paced. I -HATE- games like Unreal Tournament, I find them SO boring, they're just too fast paced. 5 minutes and I'm bored.
I wish they could make a game where a sniper has a significant role. AA isn't bad in that way, though.
I dunno, point is, I see your side of it and I agree, though I think what some people may call camping is fine, but there is -definitely- a line to be drawn. Then again, some people call using certain weapons in the game "cheap" and call the people who use such weapons "noobs", and I think that's a load of crap, too. So I take the criticism with a grain of salt.
